Title: Analysis of Complex Bursting Patterns in Multiple Time Scale Respiratory Neuron Models

Speaker: Yangyang Wang (PhD Candidate, University of Pittsburgh)

Abstract: CPGs may exhibit behavior, including bursting, involving multiple distinct time scales. Our goal is to understand bursting dynamics in multiple-time-scale systems, motivated by a model from respiratory CPG neuron. We apply geometric singular perturbation theory to explain the mechanisms underlying some forms of bursting dynamics in a three-time-scale model and identify solution properties that truly require three time scales. This analysis is also extended to study more complicated multiple-time-scale dynamics in the pre-Bötzinger complex neurons.
